Calf Weaning Mask (Plastic)
A calf weaning mask is used to discourage the calf from nursing. When attached to the calf’s nose, it creates mild discomfort for the dam, leading her to reject nursing attempts. Over time, this helps the calf transition away from suckling.
How to Use:
- Sizing & Check: Select a mask that fits securely on the calf’s nose without causing excessive pressure.
- Attachment: Fasten the mask so the calf can’t easily remove it, but ensure it doesn’t obstruct breathing or cause pain.
- Monitoring: Regularly inspect the calf’s nose area for signs of irritation or injury. Remove if necessary and consult a veterinarian.
- Weaning Period: Typically, a few days to a week of wearing the mask leads to the dam rejecting the calf’s attempts at suckling, effectively weaning the calf.
